Saturation pressures computed with CoolProp 8.0.0 (R452B.mix) on October 10, 2026, gauge pressure at sea level. Checked against TEGA published chart at 10 points; largest difference 0.74 psi. How these numbers are made.
What R-452B is and where it is used
R-452B is a blend of 67% R-32, 7% R-125 and 26% R-1234yf by weight. Chemours sells it as Opteon XL55, and it has also been marketed as Solstice L41y. It carries an ASHRAE A2L rating: lower toxicity and lower flammability. Its pressures sit close to R-410A, which it was designed to replace in new positive-displacement equipment: window and portable units, mini-splits, multi-splits, ducted splits, PTACs, commercial packaged units, heat pumps and DX chillers.
Chemours describes it as intended for new equipment only. Its AR5 GWP of 676 is about a third of R-410A's. It is one of several A2L options alongside R-454B and R-32.
How to read the R-452B chart
Chemours describes the glide of R-452B as very low. The computed glide is about 2.1°F at a 110 psig suction pressure and 2.1°F at a 350 psig liquid pressure. Small is not zero, so use both columns:
Superheat: read suction pressure against the dew column. At 110 psig the dew point is 40.6°F. The superheat calculator applies this automatically.
Subcooling: read liquid line pressure against the bubble column. At 350 psig the bubble point is 110.1°F. Use the subcooling calculator.
An R-410A chart will be wrong here. At 40°F, R-452B is 113.2 psig bubble and 108.8 psig dew, while R-410A is 118.8 psig. See bubble point, dew point and glide.
Typical R-452B pressures in air conditioning
As round example values, not targets, take a 40°F evaporator and a 110°F condensing temperature:
Suction (dew at 40°F): R-452B 108.8 psig, R-410A 118.8 psig
Liquid (bubble at 110°F): R-452B 349.4 psig, R-410A 366.4 psig
Both sides run somewhat below R-410A at the same temperatures. Charge to the superheat or subcooling target in the equipment's installation manual.
Service notes for an A2L blend
New equipment only. Chemours states that no A2L refrigerant is to be used as a retrofit, and EPA lists R-452B only for new equipment designed for it. Never put R-452B into an R-410A system.
Use conditions. EPA's SNAP listing requires red markings on service ports and refrigerant lines, warning labels, and charge limits tied to UL 60335-2-40 and the size of the room served. Read what A2L refrigerants change for techs.
Tools. Chemours lists recovery machines and electronic leak detectors certified for 2L refrigerants, a vacuum pump with its switch located away from the work zone, and recovery cylinders labeled for flammable gas. Before brazing, it says to recover the refrigerant, purge with nitrogen if code requires, ventilate, and check the air for refrigerant vapor.
Charge as liquid. Chemours advises removing all blends from the cylinder as liquid.
Oil. Use the compressor maker's oil. Danfoss lists POE for its R-452B scrolls. Bitzer charges some scrolls with PVE and warns that R-1234yf thins the oil, so keep superheat adequate.
